Sydney man remains behind bars after allegedly murdering father

A man will remain behind bars after allegedly murdering his father at a home in Sydney's north.

‌Emergency services were called to the home on Kita Road in Berowra Heights about 4.20pm yesterday following reports of a domestic violence incident.

Police found 69-year-old Ken Fitzpatrick with serious injuries to his head.

He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Fitzpatrick's son, 38-year-old Jaiken Fitzpatrick, was arrested at the home and later charged with murder.

He was refused bail when his case was mentioned in Hornsby Local Court this morning.

His lawyer, Andrew Scali, told the court he is an "extremely unsettled person".

The court heard the accused has a history of mental health and medical conditions.

Scali requested a mental health assessment for his client's safety.

Fitzpatrick will return to court on October 31.

Ken, a father of three and grandfather, is being remembered as a true gentleman.

A close family friend told 9News Ken had a big heart and would do anything for anyone.

Neighbours remembered him as a "very nice man".

"Very sad because he was a very good man," a neighbour said.
