Brother of ‘much-loved’ Brisbane golf club chef charged with his murder

A man has been charged with the murder of his chef brother, who was found dead inside a western Brisbane home yesterday.

Patrick Willemyns, the 53-year-old head chef at the Karana Downs Golf Club, was allegedly bashed inside his home on College Road, Karana Downs.

Police arrested a 56-year-old man late last night after searching all evening for a suspect. The man is Mr Willemyns's brother, police confirmed.

He has since been charged with murder and is expected to appear in court today.

It's understood Mr Willemyns was found dead on his lounge and one of the home’s windows was smashed.

He has been remembered as a good friend and hard worker.

The Karana Downs Golf Club paid tribute to him in a Facebook post.

“Today we farewell a great friend and chef Patrick Willemyns,” the post read.

“We will miss you mate.”

Club regulars remembered Mr Willemyn fondly and passed on their condolences on the Facebook page.

“Thinking of your club team and our community. RIP Patrick, thanks for all your lovely meals,” one patron wrote.

“So sad to hear about this, RIP Pat xx,” wrote another.

Club owner Brett Lawton said Mr Willemyns was a “much-loved” staff member.

“He was very capable and a great chef ... he lived for his work,” Mr Lawton said.
