Man charged with manslaughter after fatal fight at Victorian fish and chip shop

A new father has been charged with manslaughter following an incident at a Victorian fish and chip shop that led to another man dying from the injuries he sustained.
The victim, 48-year-old Indigenous artist Sheldon Broderick, was airlifted to hospital after an altercation with 31-year-old Jake Mouat, at shop on Corangamite Drive in Corio about 5am on Monday, June 20.
Broderick died from his injuries in the Alfred Hospital three days later.

Police allege Broderick had been breaking into the shop, when he was confronted by Mouat.
Mouat allegedly then struck Broderick in the head with cricket bat.
Police say he stayed at the scene to call 000.
Broderick's friends have told 9News the father-of-three should be remembered as more than a suspected thief who died after a bungled burglary, describing him as a good guy and a father figure.
Mouat faced Geelong Magistrates Court today and was denied bail.
He will return to court in October.
