Man charged with making threatening phone calls to Sydney hospitals

A man has been arrested for making a number of alleged hoax calls to hospitals across Sydney last week.

On Monday and Tuesday last week nine hospitals, including the Royal North Shore and Prince of Wales, allegedly received threatening prank phone calls.

Several of the hospitals were evacuated as a precaution.

Detectives commenced an investigation into the incidents under Operation Hammerhead, which was launched on the morning of September 18 following historic terror raids across western Sydney and Brisbane.

Police believe the phone calls were made from a public payphone at Randwick in Sydney's east.

Following a raid on a home at Kingsford a 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with the making the hoax calls.
