A man who allegedly broke into a woman’s home in the NSW Illawarra region and sexually assaulted her has been arrested and charged after fleeing police officers.

Police allege the man broke into a woman's home on the Princes Highway in Albion Park on January 18, before sexually assaulting and punching her.

The 21-year-old man was found by police in Mascot, in Sydney's south, on Australia Day but managed to slip away after allegedly assaulting an officer and dropping two bags of drugs in the process.
