Driver accused of hitting multiple vehicles and fleeing scene

A man who allegedly drove at 142km/h before crashing into multiple vehicles in Queensland has been charged today with dangerous driving.

Police spotted the man allegedly driving a Ford Focus sedan almost 50km/h over the speed limit on Tuesday at about 3.10pm along Mary Valley Road, Box Hill, in the state's Gympie region.

The car was followed by a police before it turned into a road with an active school zone, whereupon the police vehicle turned off its lights and sirens.

Officers believe the sedan allegedly crashed into multiple vehicles and failed to stop at the scene of the crash.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police later found the car abandoned.

The driver was later found a short distance away allegedly with drugs, drug utensils, a small knife and two firearms.

A 32-year-old man has been charged with 16 offences, including one count each of disobeying the speed limit, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, failing to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash and driving a motor vehicle without a driver's licence.

He is also facing four counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of receiving tainted property.

The man fronted court on Wednesday and is scheduled to reappear next month.

Investigations are ongoing.
