Man charged with Collombet murder, rape

A man has been charged with raping and murdering French student Sophie Louise Collombet.

The 21-year-old Griffith University business student was on her way home after a night class when she was attacked in south Brisbane on March 27.

Her naked and battered body was found the next day by an early morning jogger at Kurilpa Park, at the edge of Brisbane's busy South Bank precinct.

Benjamin James Milward, an itinerant, was arrested in Coffs Harbour, northern NSW on Monday and extradited to Queensland.

He was charged with murder, rape, deprivation of liberty and robbery and is due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
