Man charged over Sydney carjacking

A man has been charged after a carjacking at a western Sydney shopping centre.

Police say a 20-year-old woman was forced from her car in Carlisle Avenue at Mt Druitt on Monday afternoon by a man who took off in it.

He only drove a short way before he stopped in the middle of the road, got out of the car and approached another motorist.

Police arrived and used capsicum spray to subdue the man, who allegedly punched one of the officers.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with unlawfully taking or driving a motor vehicle with a person in it, resisting arrest and assaulting police.

He remains in custody and will appear in Mt Druitt Local Court on Tuesday.
