Man charged with attempted murder over Gold Coast shooting

A man has been charged with attempted murder in connection to a shooting and a carjacking on the Gold Coast.

A 48-year-old man was shot in the stomach just before midnight on Saturday outside his Gaven home when he tried to stop a thief breaking into his car.

Earlier on Saturday evening, in a separate incident, a car was stolen at gunpoint in Redland Bay, when the driver tried to help at the scene of a crashed stolen vehicle.

Last night a member of the public reported seeing the stolen car and police took two men into custody.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences including attempted murder and unlawful possession while a 24-year-old man has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possessing pipes or utensils.

Both men will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
