A public appeal for assistance helped police identify the man. (9NEWS) 

A third person has been charged in relation to a man's body found in an abandoned mine in Victoria's north earlier this month. 

The remains of the 56-year-old Mooroopna man were found in a shaft in Whroo on March 12.

A 26-year-old Traralgon man has previously been charged with murder, and a 30-year-old Tongala woman has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder. 

This morning, a 34-year-old Echuca man was charged with accessory after the fact to murder, Victoria Police said in a statement. 

He received bail and is expected to appear in the Shepparton Magistrates Court today.
