A 57-year-old man has been charged after a fatal daylight stabbing in Melbourne's north.

The man allegedly became involved in a verbal altercation with a 55-year-old man on Scammel Street in Campbellfield about 1.30pm yesterday.

He allegedly then stabbed the 55-year-old, who was sitting behind the wheel of a Mercedes Benz, which then rolled 100 metres before crashing into a parked car.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrate's Court today.
