Man charged after woman dragged from car

A man accused of dragging a woman out of a car and throwing her so violently to the ground that she hit her head and passed out has been charged with assault.

Police say the alleged domestic assault was witnessed by a number of people at Bankstown in Sydney's southwest about 4am (AEDT) on Sunday.

They say a 38-year-old women was dragged from the car by the driver and thrown on to a grass verge after the pair began arguing.

She struck her head on the ground and was knocked unconscious before the man drove away, police said.

The woman was taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment of minor head injuries.

A 35-year-old man was later arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday.
