Man charged after son injured by rifle

A man will face court on firearms offences after his son was allegedly injured while playing with an unsecured rifle in northern NSW.

Police allege that on December 8, an 11-year-old boy sustained minor injuries to his hands and face while playing with the rifle at a property in Long Plain near Inverell.

The incident was not reported to police who received information about it five days later.

Police attended the property and seized a number of firearms including a .22 rifle that allegedly discharged, injuring the boy.

A 44-year-old man had his firearms licence suspended and was issued a court attendance notice for the offences of possessing an unregistered firearm and allowing an unauthorised person to possess a firearm.

He will appear in Inverell Local Court on February 20.
