Man charged after NSW house fire

Police have charged a 40-year-old man after a house fire in Sydney's south.

Emergency services were called to a home in Pitt Street, Mortdale, about 6.30am on Monday following reports of a fire.

The house was unoccupied at the time and no one was injured.

Police arrested a man at Central Railway Station an hour later and charged him with causing malicious damage, breaking and entering, damaging property by fire and breaching an AVO.

He was refused bail and is to appear at Central Local Court on Tuesday.
