A US horse rancher says he’s more than happy to act as a pair of eyes for his blind horse who “wants to just run”.

In a video posted to Great Big Story’s official YouTube account, Roderick Olsen from Soldier Grove, Wisconsin said horse “Zaxson” first came into his care 21 years ago.

It was only 10 years ago however that he noticed Zaxson was beginning to lose his eyesight.

“Most of the old horse dealers or farmers, they’d get rid of the horse. But I figured I’d keep him,” Mr Olsen said.

“If I went blind, I hope they’d keep me around a while.”

Mr Olsen insists he didn’t believe the horse to be useless because of his disability.

Despite going blind, Zaxson still trusts Mr Olsen to ride him – a feeling he says is mutual.

The video shows the horse frolicking in the water, wandering through a forest and even racing across a field, with Mr Olsen’s help.

It has since been viewed tens of thousands of times.
