Man attacked, robbed and thrown from car in Sydney Gumtree scam

A string of robberies in western Sydney targeting people selling mobile phones on Gumtree has sparked a police strike force investigation.

Sellers have been attacked and robbed in seven suburbs since December after agreeing to meet prospective online buyers in person.

NSW Police have released footage of a 26-year-old male victim being thrown from a black Toyota in south Strathfield after his phone and possessions were stolen.

Strike Force Hayden officers believe two men in their late teens are behind the scam.

The robberies happened in Lidcombe, Strathfield, Regents Park, Merrylands, Brookvale, Marsfield and Canley Heights.

Police today made a public appeal for help to catch the robbers.

The two men are described as Middle Eastern in appearance and are aged in their late teens or early 20s.

The advice from police and Gumtree is to conduct all transactions online and by post.

If you need to make the transaction in person, it is encouraged to meet in public places where there is CCTV.
