A man has been arrested after a dramatic stand-off involving heavily-armed police in Melbourne’s south-east this morning, which left a man fighting for life and two other women injured.

The man allegedly stabbed three people at a home on Waratah Avenue, then ran to a nearby house on Lacebark Avenue in Doveton about 6.30am.

Police stormed the property around 40 minutes later and tasered the man, who had been threatening self harm, and eventually led him away in a stretcher.

One of the victims, a male, was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition. A woman was also taken to hospital with serious upper and lower body injuries.

Another woman was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition.

Multiple streets were blocked off around the area as police negotiated with the man involved.

Police believe the man knew the alleged victims, who may have been family members.

He has been taken to hospital for assessment.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
