When they approached the home the man reportedly retreated inside the home, armed with a knife.

Officers secured a perimeter and with the assistance of police negotiators and the Tactical Operations Unit a 40-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody at about 11.30pm.

He was charged with common assault and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
