Police have been told the man picked up the stroller with the baby inside and threw it before leaving the scene.

The five-month-old fell and hit his head on a tile floor.

He was rushed to Westmead Children's Hospital with a suspected head injury, his mother at his side.

The baby remains in a stable condition.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old man was found by police nearby a short time later and taken to Mount Druitt Police Station, where he is being questioned by detectives.
