A man has admitted to murdering a young woman whose body was found in long grass by a road north of Adelaide.

Dwaine Francis Airey, 41, changed his plea to guilty in the South Australian Supreme Court on Tuesday.

He admitted to murdering Jessie Anne Wilson, 24, formerly of Mount Gambier, on or about September 28, 2012, at Hillier or elsewhere.

A council worker found Ms Wilson's body on October 8, 2012, about three months after she had moved to Adelaide.

Airey, whose trial was due to begin this week, previously pleaded not guilty after his lawyer said Ms Wilson might have died of a heart attack, and he was awaiting a report from a cardiac expert.

Airey will face a sentencing hearing on May 29.
