Unlicensed driver, 72, arrested over shocking hit-run in Adelaide that left a motorbike rider seriously hurt

Police have revealed a man accused over a shocking city hit-run, is 72-years-old and had his licence disqualified more than 30 years ago. 

On Wednesday the 18th of July a silver Ford sedan collided with a motorcycle at the intersection of Hutt Street and South Terrace just before 6pm after allegedly failing to give way. 

The incident was caught on security cameras clearly showing the impact, the rider sent flying, then crashing to the bitumen as the car was driven away. 

Shocked witnesses rushed to aid the victim, 52-year-old David Baker from Loebethal in the Adelaide Hills. 

Mr Baker suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment. 

Following police investigations the alleged driver of the vehicle, a 72-year-old man from Unley, was arrested last night and charged with a number of offences including aggravated driving without due care and failure to stop. 

He's also been charged with driving while disqualified after further checks revealed his licence has been suspended since 1987. 

Speaking exclusively to 9NEWS Mr Baker, said "they left me for dead".

Mr Baker who suffered a broken collarbone and a badly dislocated shoulder said "it's very easy to sort of lose your faith in people when people do something like that".

The charged man's car was located by Police at an Adelaide crash repairs business and has been seized as part of their investigations.

Mr Baker has since been released from hospital and is now recovering at home.
