Malaysia Airlines flight forced to land in Alice Springs after 'technical issue' with engines
A Malaysia Airlines flight bound for Kuala Lumpur has diverted to Alice Springs after a "technical issue" with the engines.
The airline confirmed Flight MH128, which departed Melbourne about 11.20pm yesterday, landed just hours later in Alice Springs.
The Airbus A330-323 landed about 4.35am today NT time.

"Malaysia Airlines confirms that flight MH128 on 19 August 2024, from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur, diverted to Alice Springs Airport (ASP) due to a technical issue. The aircraft landed safely at 4.35am local time," it said in a statement .
"The airline is actively working to rebook passengers on new flights, while also arranging accommodation and reimbursements for meal expenses where applicable."

Airport Development Group (ADG), which manages Alice Springs Airport, confirmed the diversion was due to engine issues.
"We are pleased to report that all passengers are safe, and we commend the swift and coordinated response of our team, the airline, and emergency services," Rob Porter, executive general manager – airports said.
"A smaller number of passengers will stay overnight in Alice Springs and will be flown out on domestic flights tomorrow".
