Man charged after siege, pursuit through Sydney's south

A 24-year-old man will face court today after a police pursuit turned into a siege in Sydney's south-west.

The stand-off began after police attempted to stop a motor vehicle on Henderson Road in Ingleburn about 11.20am yesterday.

Police will allege the driver failed to stop and continued to Saligna Way in Macquarie Fields, where he crashed into a fence before fleeing on foot and barricading himself in a nearby home.

Residents told 9News that they heard the man shouting, claiming that he "had a gun." Police have not confirmed if a firearm was found on the man.

The police dog squad, as well as other officers and paramedics were on the scene.

The man turned himself in about 5pm and he was taken Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with a string of offences.

The charges include armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, use of an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, trespass, driving with a disqualified licence, failing to stop a vehicle when directed to do so, driving conveyance taken without the consent of the owner and intimidating a police officer.

9News has obtained footage of the alleged driver being pursued by police on Eucalyptus Drive prior to the stand-off.

Residents were eventually told to evacuate the area as police moved in to arrest the 25-year-old man.

He is due to face Campbelltown Local Court later today.
