Low-paid new mums stand to lose up to $10,000 under proposed cuts to paid parental leave.

Nurses, ambulance workers, teachers and retail workers could lose between $3900 to $10,500 if they can no longer claim taxpayer-funded leave, modelling conducted by women's group Fair Agenda shows.

The group says some families would be left with seven to 13 weeks of living costs covered by the government system.
