Lotto ticket purchased accidentally in Perth delivers $1.7m surprise

A lotto ticket purchased by accident has delivered a Perth syndicate of 11 friends a $1.7 million surprise.

Each member took home $157,474 of two Division One prizes in last weekend's Saturday draw, but as it turns out, their winning entry in the draw was never meant to be, the West Australian reports.

"I'd put on our normal weekly Saturday Lotto ticket, but on a ticket previously purchased I'd accidentally selected the advanced play option," the guilty syndicate member told the newspaper on the condition of anonymity.

"This meant I doubled up on last weekend's draw resulting in two entries for the same draw.

"It then just so happened to be 'that' draw that we won Lotto on giving us not one, but two Division One prizes. It's just stunning!" he said.

The syndicate members from Perth's southern suburbs are aged between 30 and 60 and have been playing Lotto together for 12 years.

Their plans for the winnings included paying off mortgages, holidays and a the purchase of a long-awaited Harley Davidson motorcycle.
