Sydney woman wins $50m with her first ever lottery ticket

A Sydney woman has won $50 million with the first lottery ticket she had ever bought.

The North Sydney woman was on holidays on the NSW South Coast town of Sussex Inlet when she bought the ticket.

"You won't believe this. This is the first lottery ticket I've ever bought in my life," she told lottery officials when she came forward this morning.

"I've never played Oz Lotto before. I walked past the newsagency and thought it would be a bit of fun to enter, so I did."

"I can't believe it. I'm shaking. I'm shocked, so shocked."

The unnamed woman was the only Division One lottery winner in Tuesday's draw.

She only realised she had won this morning when she went online to check my ticket.

"My friend called me just before and said to me 'I think the newsagency you bought your Oz Lotto ticket from sold the $50 million winning entry'," she said.

"My heart is beating so hard, I'm pacing around.

"I feel like I could have a heart attack."

She said she did not yet know how she would spend her winnings.

"Honestly, I cannot think straight," she said. "I'll definitely keep working, but oh my goodness, I just don't know."

She put down her unlikely win to "beginner's luck".

The winning ticket had been sold at Inlet Newsagency in the small tourist town south of Nowra.

The winning numbers were 12, 9, 13, 7, 32, 5 and 4. The supplementary numbers were 19 and 35.

Tonight's Powerball lottery is offering $80 million.
