Logies may come to Sydney or regional NSW

Sydney and regional NSW could throw their hats into the ring to host the Logies, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

Melbourne has decided to ditch the event after 30 years because TV's night of nights just doesn't "cut it" as a major event and brings in "very little" to the economy, the Victorian government has announced.

Ms Berejiklian said she would look at what it takes to apply and host the annual ceremony.

Her preference for a venue, she said, would be Western Sydney - but welcomed calls from regional NSW to host the awards which have been held almost always in Melbourne since 1959.

"I think it would be wonderful to have parts of NSW fight for the Logies, whether it's regional NSW or Western Sydney," she told reporters in Sydney on Monday.

Asked whether the Logies should go to Queensland instead, the Premier disagreed.

"Definitely NSW, we know how to put on a good party," she said with a laugh.
