Young Loganlea father dies after being stabbed during overnight fight

A fight south of Brisbane has ended with the death of a young father from a fatal neck injury.

Robert Watene, 33, was pronounced dead outside a block of units on University Drive in Loganlea following the attack just before 2am today.

9NEWS understands his three children were asleep inside, but his partner witnessed the fight that led to his death.

Police believe a fight between Watene and his neighbour Dakota Tihirua Ruka-Pohe broke out, during which the 33-year-old was fatally stabbed.

It's believed the group had been out drinking earlier in the evening. 

A murder investigation has been launched and Ruka-Pohe is in police custody. He will face court tomorrow charged with murder and one count of serious assault.

Detectives have removed a number of items from the scene this morning including a backpack and clothing.
