'Great Wall of Logan' to separate furious property owners from upgraded motorway

A group of homeowners say they feel let down after finding out their units will be sitting on top of an upgraded motorway.

Just eight metres from a complex of townhouses and units in Logan, south of Brisbane, sits a white perimeter fence, set up by the state government ahead of major roadworks on the Pacific Motorway.

On the other side will be two new southbound lanes.

Once they saw the white fence set up about two weeks ago, residents told 9NEWS they knew they were in trouble.

While 28 of 37 units at Rochedale South complex, and another complex just 500 metres away, have been resumed and demolished, nine were left untouched.

Homeowners of the remaining nine units have questioned why there too weren’t offered resumption.

With some renting their properties to tenants, they are concerned the value of their homes will plummet.

But the roads minister yesterday said it was simply a case of bad luck.

“It’s a difficult process for people and I acknowledge that. But there is a clear and fair process around what land we acquire for projects,” Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said yesterday.

“We only take the land that we need.”

The major roadworks will include the new southbound lanes of the Pacific Motorway between Eight Mile Plains and Rochedale along with the relocation of a bus shelter nearby. 

Construction is due to start next month, with a projection completion in 2020.
