LNP denies rift between Queensland Premier Campbell Newman and Treasurer Tim Nicholls

The LNP has steadfastly denied reports of a damaging rift between Queensland Premier Campbell Newman and Treasurer Tim Nicholls.

The state’s two most powerful men claim their relationship is as strong as ever.

It comes after claims Mr Nicholls has demanded Mr Newman back him should the premier lose his seat of Ashgrove at the next election.

Mr Nicholls tried to dampen the speculation in statement.

“Anyone making claims of a rift in the Government is simply ill-informed,” he said.

“Campbell Newman and I are both colleagues and friends.”

Labor look set to pounce on any hint of division ahead of next year’s election, with Mr Newman’s LNP seeking a second term in office.
