A six-year-old girl has had a narrow escape after being attacked by a sexual predator in Sydney’s southwest.

The girl was riding her bicycle inside the grounds of an apartment complex in Cabramatta yesterday afternoon with her eight-year-old brother when a man approached her.

The man called the girl to come over to him and took her to the rear of the building.

Witnesses told police the man touched the girl and then took his pants off.

But the sex pest was scared off after the neighbors screamed at him to stop.

The man fled, pursued by the girl’s father, but managed to escaped.

“Maybe he was hiding somewhere behind the building,” the girl’s father told 9NEWS.

The girl’s mother said she was still in disbelief.

“I’m shocked, I can’t believe it still, I’m still shaking,” she said.

Police are looking to speak with a man who has been described as Middle Eastern or Mediterranean in appearance, aged in his late 30s or 40s, standing about 190cm tall with facial hair.

He was wearing a black cap with a black or brown jumper, light blue jeans and grey joggers at the time of the attack.
