Twelve injured during stabbing, brawl at Lithgow jail

Twelve inmates have been injured during a brawl at Lithgow jail in the NSW Blue Mountains.

Among the injured is a 36-year-old male inmate with stab wounds to the chest and head. He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital.

Emergency services were called to Lithgow Correctional Centre at 10.50am (AEST) this morning after receiving reports a man had been stabbed, a spokesperson for NSW Ambulance said.

However, when crews arrived at the scene there were 12 patients requiring treatment.

Among the other injured inmates, one was transported to Bathurst Hospital by road and another was taken to Nepean Hospital. The remaining patients are being treated at the Lithgow Correctional Centre Medical Centre.
