A coalition backbencher opposes government changes to the life insurance industry, which would reduce high up-front commissions.
Liberal MP Bert Van Manen on Thursday told parliament he could not support the draft laws, which the government says is a response to poor quality advice being linked to excessive up-front payments.
The Queenslander believes the changes will inflict "significant damage" on life insurance advisers.
