Lib bowls over political cereal offenders

Political parties are like breakfast cereals, apparently.

Labor? Coco Pops.

"Eventually your insulin capacity maxes out and debt-abetes sets in - that's when voters rightly give them the flick and look for healthier alternatives," government backbencher Tim Wilson told parliament on Wednesday.

The Greens like to think that's them: a bowl of organic muesli and a dollop of almond milk.

"Seemingly good but only the uber rich can afford it."

One Nation: Fruit Loops, of course.

They're colourful and many have been tempted by Toucan Sam's enticing sales pitch.

"But in the end we know their colour doesn't quite come naturally."

And that's where the Liberal-National coalition steps in, Mr Wilson said.

"We're Sultana Bran. It's consumed for the health of the nation because we clear out the system and make things regular again."

If given enough time, they can cure "Labor's debt-abetes" and can sometimes even deliver a healthy sultana surplus.

"The point is that the benefit of Sultana Bran is that it's everyone's logical second choice. But Sultana Bran and Fruit Loops should never be mixed."
