Leyonhjelm seeks right to die changes

A crossbench senator will seek to repeal a 1997 federal law banning the ACT and Northern Territory from legislating to allow assisted suicide.

Liberal Democrats senator David Leyonhjelm, who will propose a private bill, said it was fundamentally wrong for governments to deny the right to die at the time of a person's choosing.

"If the law prevents us from making free choices about our lives then we are not free at all," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
