Australia’s oldest Olympian, Forbes Carlile, has died aged 95 after a short battle with illness.

He was the only person to have ever coached an Olympic team and later go on to compete at the games.

Carlile coached the Australian swim team in the Olympic Games following World War II.

The Australian swim team came fourth in 1948 in London, the first Games after the war.

Carlile then went on to represent Australia himself, competing in the pentathlon at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki.
