Lee Lin Chin steps up as Australia's new lambassador
SBS newsreader Lee Lin Chin has joined Sam Kekovich as the country's new leading 'Lambassador', spruiking the virtues of the tasty meat in a new Australia Day advertisement.
This year's campaign has the eccentric journalist embarking on 'Operation Boomerang', a mission to bring expat Aussies home and save them from a miserable Australia Day without lamb.
Chin directs the operations from a war room-type bunker, with a SWAT team called in to rescue Wallaby Stephen Moore in London, Princess Mary of Denmark and cricketer Mitchell Johnson and whisk them home in a helicopter.
"The kookaburra has landed," Sam Kekovich says, as the rescued Aussies then touch down in time for a classic lamb-filled Australia Day barbecue.
Vegans do not escape a roasting, with the famously acerbic Chin scoffing at an Aussie protesting that he had gone meat-free.
Chin has gained a cult following as a result of her social media posts, which range from innuendo-laden to tweets laced with black humour.
The SBS journalist took part in an Anchorman-style fight to death with other Australian newsreaders last year, in a video that later went viral.
"Chin is a universally accepted figure," Kekovich told News Corp. "She’s pleasant, she’s pivotal. She’s not complicated or tyrannical."
