Learner driver fined $2500, will face court after being pulled over in north-east NSW

A 27-year-old learner driver in northern New South Wales has been fined more than $2500 and lost his licence after police pulled him over earlier this month.

At about 4.55pm on February 18, the Kingscliff man was driving a Hyundai Terracan on Rosewood Avenue, Bogangar.

Police in a marked Highway Patrol car allegedly saw the man accelerate to speeds of more than 90km/hr in a 50km/hr zone.

The man was pulled over and was unable to produce his licence. Police claim checks revealed he had a current NSW learner licence.

He was the only person in the car and had no L plates displayed, police said.

He was also accused of failing to tell Service NSW he had moved homes after two months ago.

Police also allege he returned a positive roadside breath test.

The man was arrested and returned a second breath test result of 0.189 at the station.

He was issued with a court attendance notice for high-range drink driving, and his licence was suspended immediately.

The man was also fined for being an unaccompanied learner driver, not displaying L plates, not carrying his licence, failing to notify Service NSW about his change of address, and speeding.

In total, his fines came to $2583. He also lost seven demerit points.
