Latvian mayor’s interview turns cat-astrophic when feline interrupts

The mayor of Latvia’s capital of Riga was promptly upstaged mid-interview by his inquisitive cats.

Nils Ushakov was giving a Q&A interview in Spikeri when his cat leapt up onto the table and sauntered over to greet him.

The black moggy confidently strode to his mug of tea and took a sip as Mr Ushakov stared it down solemnly before breaking into a smile.

The self-professed animal lover quickly recovered to continue his interview.

The unpredictable encounter echoed the curious child who interrupted British professor Robert Kelly’s live interview just weeks ago.

Prof. Kelly was giving an interview on BBC World News about South Korean politics when his daughter Marion let herself into his office and bounced over to him.

She was quickly followed by a baby in a walker before being ushered out by Prof. Kelly’s wife.

The video amassed millions of views and rapidly became a viral sensation.
