Two NRL stars now facing firearms charges after controversial camping trip

Two NRL players are facing firearm charges after a camping trip that breached social distancing rules.

Latrell Mitchell, 22, and Josh Addo-Carr, 24, were in Taree on the NSW mid-north coast at the weekend with 10 other men. They were found out after videos were posted online.

Subsequently, they were handed fines by both NSW Police and the NRL, but now they are also facing criminal charges.

"Following extensive inquiries, a 22-year-old man attended Taree Police Station about 11.15am today," NSW Police said in a statement.

"He has been issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for the offence of give firearm to person not authorised by licence/permit. His firearms licence was suspended, and a number of firearms were seized by police.

"A 24-year-old man has also been issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for the offence of use unauthorised firearm."

Both men will appear at Taree Local Court on Tuesday, August 4 2020, police said.

Earlier this afternoon the NRL handed Mitchell and Addo-Carr breach notices for bringing the game into disrepute but it stopped short of banning them.

They were both slapped with $50,000 fines, although $30,000 of each fine will be suspended. The pair were also fined $1,000 by NSW Police for breaching social distancing restrictions.
