Latest Perth bushfire is suspicious

Emergency authorities have confirmed a bushfire which threatened residents in northeast Perth is being treated as suspicious.

Almost 30 hectares in the Brabham, West Swan, Henley Brook and Whiteman Park area was burned after the fire sparked during another blisteringly hot Sunday in the West Australian capital.

A bushfire advice warning was kept in place on Monday, although there is now no threat to lives or homes.

The fire is still burning in bushland and farmland between Harrow Street, Lord Street, Park Street and West Swan Road in Brabham.

It is likely the fire will smoulder for many days as it is now burning in peat underground, which is almost impossible to extinguish.

The cause of the fire, which was reported at just before 4pm on Sunday, is suspicious according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
