Lambie vows to block government legislation until Defence personnel get bigger pay rise

Palmer United Party Senator Jacqui Lambie has vowed to vote down all government legislation until ADF personnel are given a bigger pay rise.

Senator Lambie has slammed the "insulting" decision to grant troops just 1.5 per cent as an act of cowardice by the government.

Speaking on the TODAY show this morning, Senator Lambie called on Australians to turn their backs on government MPs at Remembrance Day services later this month and said she would show no support for the government until the issue was sorted.

She said the issue was close to her heart.

"I am very upset – I've still got mates that are serving," she said.

"It is very disheartening."

Senator Lambie said she would be "standing her ground" and called on the Greens, Labor Party and crossbenchers to "give the diggers a fair go" and demand better pay and working conditions.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has said the 1.5 per cent pay increase is all the government can afford in the current budget climate.

"This is my own silent protest," she said.

"Our Defence force personnel, they don’t have a voice, they don't have a union.

"I won't pass any federal government legislation until the pay deal improves."

Senator Lambie called on PUP leader Clive Palmer to take up her campaign, but would not elaborate on what she would do if he woudn't support her cause.

"I will be asking him to stand by my side," she said.

"I'm not moving."

She said she would be "fighting fire with fire" and accused Mr Palmer of "flip-flopping" over the issue.

"It will be a battle to the end with this one," she said.
