Lambie meets 'the devil himself' Palmer

Jacqui Lambie has met with the devil, but she won't be selling her soul.

Asked whether she had met her former boss Clive Palmer at the weekend, the former Palmer United Party member said: "I did have a meeting with the devil himself."

She referred to Mr Palmer as "the devil" three times while speaking to reporters in Canberra on Monday morning.

She only called him by name right at the very end of her remarks.

Senator Lambie was relieved to be done with their first face-to-face meeting since she quit PUP a week ago.

"It's nice to know he still has his door open if I need to speak to him," she said.

"He can keep his personal and his political apart."

Senator Lambie acknowledged the two remaining PUP votes in the Senate were still crucial and said she'd wanted to confirm the party's stance on higher education and her pet issue of defence pay.

"I'll meet with the devil himself ... but I won't be selling my soul for that," she said.
