Police have arrested a third man wanted in connection to a home invasion in Lake Macquarie that left a 60-year-old man dead.

Officers were in the process of hunting a 24-year-old man wanted on warrants that included murder and manslaughter, but he was unable to be located.

Last night, at around 11pm, that same man mistakenly crashed his motorcycle into an unmarked police vehicle on Ntaba Road in Jewells.

He was arrested on the spot and remains in hospital under police guard.

The 24-year-old is wanted in connection to a violent home invasion on December 17 in Whitebridge that left Philip Steele dead.

Two accomplices, aged 19 and 22, have already been charged with the murder of the grandfather-of-eleven and remain before the courts.

The trio allegedly broke into Mr Steele’s home with their faces covered and attacked him in his bedroom with baseball bats and knives.

Mr Steele suffered a serious cut to his arm and later died at John hunter Hospital.

The victim’s two brothers were at home at the time of the attack but were not injured, according to a police statement.
