Man dies after violent home invasion in Lake Macquarie

A man has died after three people broke into his home and attacked him in Lake Macquarie overnight.

Emergency services were called to a property on Lonus Avenue at Whitebridge, 11 kilometres south-west of Newcastle, shortly after 2.30am.

Paramedics found a 60-year-old man with a serious injury to his arm Inside the home.

He was treated at the scene and taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police district established a crime scene at the property and have launched an investigation into the man’s death.

Police were told three people armed with baseball bats and knives broke into the home and attacked the man in his bedroom. Their faces were covered during the attack.

Two of the victim’s brothers were inside at the time of the attack but were not injured.
