Man drowns while snorkeling on NSW South Coast

A Korean man has drowned on the NSW South Coast in a horror start to the holiday season.

At about 2.40pm today, emergency services were called to Lake Conjola Entrance Road in Lake Conjola after reports a man had been pulled from the water.

Police said the 46-year-old went missing while snorkeling and was pulled unconscious from the water by family and bystanders.

Despite efforts to revive him, the international student died at the scene.

The tragedy comes after a father and son both drowned at a closed beach at Phillip Island, on the Victorian coast.

Authorities are urging swimmers to read signs before entering the water and swim to their strengths as the number of drownings continue to rise as the weather warms up.

Last week three members of the same family drowned at a beach north of Coffs Harbour, NSW and a Swiss national drowned at the same location a few days later.
