Australian socialite Lady Susan Renouf remembered as life of the party

Australian socialite Lady Susan Renouf has died from ovarian cancer on her 74th birthday.

Known for bringing chic fashion to the political stage, Lady Renouf was renowned in Melbourne social circles for her immaculate grooming and love of hats.

Throughout her life, Lady Renouf had a string of high-profile marriages, including one to federal minister Andrew Peacock.

The couple gained national attention in the 60s for their glamourous style.

Lady Renouf later married English racehorse owner Robert Sangster, then New Zealand financier Sir Frank Renouf in 1985.  

She is survived by three daughters, including Anne Peacock, a well-known Melbourne public relations adviser.

This morning Ms Peacock shared a tribute to her late mother on Instagram, with the caption “Happy Birthday Mummy, we love you sooooo much, rest now in peace…”

Veteran entertainment commentator Peter Ford praised Lady Renouf for her fighting spirit on 3AW radio this morning.

“She was a spirited woman, she was very brave, particularly in the last six weeks, she put up an extraordinary fight,” Mr Ford said.
