Labor won't back all repeal bills

Labor will support most of the Abbott government's "repeal day" laws, but has queried two key bills.

The Labor caucus on Tuesday agreed to back the three omnibus bills which scrap thousands of business regulations.

But legislation to axe the Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission won't be supported.

And a bill to streamline the way in which agricultural and veterinary chemicals are approved will be referred to a Senate committee for an inquiry, following concerns about whether best practice is being followed.

The government has deferred debate on changes to consumer protections in new regulations relating to financial advisors, which were to be part of a $1 billion clean-up of business red tape.

The caucus put on record its opposition to the Future of Financial Advice repeal bill and decided to disallow regulations if the government pursues them.
