Labor to seek briefing on China weapons

Labor will seek a briefing from the federal government over reports China has moved weapons onto contested artificial islands in the South China Sea.

Australian officials fear China may introduce long range radar and anti-aircraft guns.

Opposition foreign affairs spokeswoman Tanya Plibersek told ABC radio on Thursday it was important countries work calmly towards a resolution ensuring the contested area remains open for shipping and any disagreements about sovereignty are worked through.
