Labor seeks changes to citizenship bill

Labor has agreed to back changes to citizenship laws relating to terrorists if the Abbott government agrees to a raft of amendments.

A bipartisan parliamentary committee has recommended a number of checks and balances in the bill which allows dual nationals to be stripped of their citizenship if they are found to have committed terrorism offences.

The Labor caucus agreed on Tuesday to back the bill subject to it "faithfully reflecting" the committee's recommendations and ensuring that it applies only to people with actual dual citizenship and not simply an entitlement to it.
